Competitive Platform Architect

The Northwest District has an immediate opening for a Competitive Platform Architect. The successful candidate will provide strategic technical sales leadership across the full application platform within our customer base. Success in this role will be achieved through building key relationships with the technical influencers and architects and supporting the sales, partner and services teams in competitive scenarios to win share on our server and application infrastructure. This person will be critical in positioning Microsoft as a credible and trusted enterprise player and driving our broader application platform sales and technical teams in identifying, engaging and winning share in our customer base.

The successful candidate will have deep technical skills across the Microsoft application platform and infrastructure stack, be well versed in Oracle and IBM technologies and sales strategies and come with a proven track record in working with key technical influencers at the highest levels within large complex customers. This person will provide strategic insight into our customers’ business challenges and translate how our technology can advance and solve those problems as it relates to Oracle, IBM and our broader competitors. This is a critical role for Microsoft as we look to enhance our relationships, take share and expand our footprint within our customer base. Finally the successful candidate will develop strategies and technical architectures aimed at solving customer problems and bringing value to their business with Microsoft solutions for the long term. This Architect will interact and work with both technical and business audiences, including IT engineering, IT management, Enterprise architecture, business decision makers, and corporate executives.

Candidates should have strong business acumen combined with a deep understanding of Developer life cycle, Microsoft enterprise developer tools strategy, including VS.NET, .NET frameworks development technologies, SQL Server, Biz Talk Server, SharePoint and a broad understanding of all Microsoft products, technologies, and solutions as well as how they integrate into heterogeneous environments. The successful candidate will also need to possess a broad understanding of Oracle’s competitive offerings within the Database, integration, application and development arena. This person will work with our sales, technical and services teams to bring innovative solutions, ideas and strategies that apply MS products and solutions to customer needs that show Microsoft has a stronger ROI model and is a better long term bet for our customers enterprise technology needs.

Qualification
The ideal candidate will have a BS/BA degree or equivalent work experience combined with a minimum of ten years relevant working experience in technical/solution sales, business solutions, solutions architecture or consulting. Strong communication and presentation skills are essential. MCSE and MCSD are preferred. They will be able to discuss architecture at a conceptual level, with meaningful reference to existing industry-accepted principles such as the architectural frameworks, solution architectures, infrastructure architectures, Service Oriented Architecture and/or the Microsoft Application Platform and its relative strengths and value relative to Oracle’s end to end architecture and value propositions. Expertise in large scale architecture design and implementation of modern systems required. Excellent knowledge and experience with additional vendors platforms, products, companies and philosophies a plus. 30% travel expected within the Greater Puget Sound Area (Bellevue, Portland and Boise) and the Bay Area.
